The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, one of America’s most haunted former psychiatric hospitals, operated from 1864 to 1994. This massive Gothic structure is the largest hand-cut stone building in North America.
Originally designed to house 250 patients, it became severely overcrowded with 2,400 patients in the 1950s. The asylum’s dark history includes harsh treatments, death, and suffering. Paranormal activity is reported throughout the building, particularly in:
